Swap your "to-do" list for your "self-care" list and wind down to the weekend with 90 minutes of deeply relaxing Friday night restorative yoga.
WHAT IS RESTORATIVE YOGA??
In restorative yoga we create the conditions for our innate relaxation response to emerge. When we are relaxed and our parasympathetic nervous system ("rest and digest” response) is activated, our body can heal in the ways it needs to.
A restorative yoga sequence typically involves only four or five poses over the course of a 90-minute class, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest, with a focus on the breath. Held for 5 minutes or more (maybe up to 20!), restorative poses include light twists, forward folds, and gentle backbends. Most restorative practices are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.
During the longer holds of restorative yoga, our muscles are able to relax deeply, allowing for the nervous system to downshift from a "fight, flight or freeze” response into a soothing relaxation response. Restorative is unique from Yin yoga because props (e.g. blankets, bolsters, blocks) - rather than your muscles - are used to hold the body with no physical ‘effort’ required.
I am passionate about the benefits of a restorative yoga practice as an antidote to the demands of a busy life. We are so much more exhausted than we realise and we often feel guilty to stop and make time for intentional rest! This class is a place to find pause from our many commitments and stressors and find a place of inner calm and stillness to end the working week.
All welcome. No previous experience required.
All props are provided but please bring warm socks! 🧦🧦🧦🧦
